A
first-hand horror story about the disaster that can result when you get Delray
Beach driveway repair from an unreliable and uninsured contractor.
I was considering selling my home in Delray Beach a few
years ago, so I decided to do some maintenance and get some upgrades done to my
home to potentially increase its’ selling price. I didn’t want to spend a lot
of money on the repairs and upgrades, because I didn’t have much to spend. I
did a few things on my own through the instruction of YouTube videos and DIY
website. I was pleased with what I accomplished and felt confident that I would
reap the fruits of my labor with the increased value of my home. Then I made
the terrible decision of getting my driveway repaired.
I’m not saying that driveway repair is a bad idea. It’s not.
In fact, driveways (I have found out) are a very important feature of any home,
because they are the first thing that people see and first impressions are
critical to selling your home. By now, you know that I did not have a huge budget
for my home upgrades. Accordingly, I did some research and chose a Delray Beach
driveway repair company that I thought
would do a good job, because their bid was the lowest for the job.
The company (who will remain unnamed for legal reasons) came
in and began the job early on a Wednesday morning. Immediately, I knew that
something wasn’t right. The employees of the company showed up smelling like
alcohol and poorly groomed. Ok, so I thought, “they are in construction, no
reason to worry,” but I should have worried. They started the job and to my
disappointment, damaged my lawn and landscaping with their second-hand
equipment by the end of the first day. On the second day, they began ripping up
my concrete driveway, leaving a bigger mess every step of the way. By week’s
end, they had most of the old driveway ripped apart.
When Monday rolled around, no one showed up. Not one
representative from the company called me to let me know that they weren’t
coming and my phone calls were met with recording after recording. This was a
month ago. Since then, I’ve had my driveway done by a reliable company, but I
still have not heard back from the second-hand, uninsured company who started
the job. Why they left and never came back I will never understand, but after doing
some research, my lawyer found that the original company had no insurance, so I
was out the money that I had already paid them.
It’s really scary to find out the hard way that choosing the
wrong contractor to do work on your home (personally, my largest investment)
can go so poorly and cost so much. Thankfully, I found a first class company
who was able to repair my driveway professionally and affordably, but the money
I lost on the uninsured company really hurt me. Make sure you find a reliable
company to do home repairs to your home in South Florida.
