A Pavement Replacement Delray Beach Nightmare

Recently, an unknown electrical wire in the ground of my front yard turned my pavement replacement project into an absolute nightmare.

Pavement Replacement Was Needed to Fix My Sidewalk

It was time to fix my sidewalk. Like many other Delray Beach homeowners, I had thought about addressing the project for quite some time before deciding to take care of it. So I began the process. I did my research. I talked to neighbors, close friends and family members in the area about pavement companies they had experience with in Delray Beach and found a wonderful contractor to do the job. The company sent a guy out to do the estimate and left me with a written quote and a start date for them to come in and fix my sidewalk. I had a really good feeling about the project.

The Job Begins

A couple of weeks later, after I had talked everything through with my wife, the company came in to start the project. Everything went well for the first couple of days as they began demolishing and removing my old, chipped and stained sidewalk. On the third day, the nightmare began.

The foreman of the pavement replacement Delray Beach team I had chosen came to my front door early on the third morning that they had been there and had a pretty bad look on his face. He calmly explained to me that they ran into something very unusual in South Florida: an underground wire. At this point, they had to begin figuring out where the wire came from and if it carried a charge. Thankfully, it did not. They began removing it. This required ripping up nearly half of my lawn! I allowed them to do so.

It had nothing to do with the company I chose to do the work. This unknown wire, but it did have something to do with them having to do all sorts of extra work that I ended up paying for. They were kind about it and cut me a break on their extra labor, because they felt bad. Fortunately, the wire was removed safely and my sidewalk got finished. It looks really great. I’m happy with the work that the company did. I just wish that weird wire weren’t there! We still have no idea why it was there or where it came from. All the pavement guys tell me the experience was a first for them. Just my luck!
